Marc N. Occil
Marc N. Occil is a Boston-born documentary and street photographer whose work examines public life, social movements, and the people who shape the character of a city. A first-generation Haitian American, he approaches photography with curiosity, patience, and respect for the people within the frame.
The subjects Marc documents are closely connected to his own life, identity, and understanding of the world. He is drawn to moments that reveal how power, opportunity, dignity, and consequence are distributed across society. His photographs focus on the conditions he believes deserve greater attention and the human experiences too often overlooked or dismissed.
Marc developed his practice through years of independently documenting Boston’s streets, neighborhoods, demonstrations, and community spaces. He later studied photography and fine art at Bunker Hill Community College and the University of Massachusetts Boston, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts.
Working primarily in black and white, Marc uses light, movement, gesture, and human interaction to create a visual record of life as it unfolds. His work preserves overlooked moments, questions accepted narratives, and encourages viewers to look more closely at the forces shaping everyday life.
